Since graduating from Newcastle University, Shane has worked in the field of Psychology in a variety of different roles in several countries. This includes work in primary, secondary and tertiary mental health settings:

• As an eating disorder specialist
• As an outpatient psychologist 
• As a consultant rehabilitation psychologist
• As a researcher in chronic illness and cancer
• Shane has taught postgraduate and undergraduate students clinical psychology, statistics and research methods

In addition to publications and research presentations in the above areas, Shane also provides editorial support to the British Journal of General Practice, Journal of Clinical Nursing, European Journal of Cancer Care, BMC Medical Research Methodology, and the International Journal of Nursing Studies.
